Tofino Brewing Company opened its doors in April 2011, at a moment when Tofino was already known for surf beaches and food trucks but had no brewery of its own. Powered by the grid, not the diesel

The brewery states that it runs on hydroelectric energy, which matters in a region where diesel generation is common in off-grid corners. It is also registered as an ocean-friendly business through Surfrider, an organisation best known for protecting beaches and water quality. What the taproom is actually like

Kids are allowed with adult supervision, which makes it workable for families in the afternoon. The first result came at the 2022 BC Beer Awards, where the brewery's Barreled Series Batch #001 won the Wild Ale category. That is a win, not a placing, and it says something about the ambition of a brewery better known for its easy-drinking lager. Wild ales are among the hardest styles to judge consistently, so taking the category in a provincial competition put the small Industrial Way operation on the map for serious beer drinkers.

The second result came at the 2023 BC Beer Awards, where the brewery placed 3rd in the Dark Lager category. The brewery's address, 691 Industrial Way, places it in Tofino's small industrial pocket rather than among the shops and restaurants on Campbell Street.
