Best Restaurants in Tofino

Executive Chef Clayton Fontaine runs a kitchen built on locally sourced, seasonal ingredients from the Tofino coast and Clayoquot Sound. Evenings are multi-course tasting menus with a Table d'Hote option, and there are morning and midday menus too, so brunch here is a real alternative if dinner is out of reach.

One clarification that matters. The Wickaninnish Inn holds a Michelin Guide 2026 One Key. That is a hotel recognition.

Michelin's restaurant guide is scoped to Vancouver and includes no Tofino restaurant, so you should not describe The Pointe as a Michelin-starred restaurant, and neither should any booking site that tells you otherwise. What the One Key does tell you is that the property housing the restaurant meets the Michelin hotel guide's standard, which is a reasonable proxy for the setting and service you get at the table. The room faces open water and the evening menus are the fullest expression of the kitchen.

The restaurant opened in the summer of 2014 and was named Air Canada enRoute's Best New Restaurant in Canada for that year, the single biggest national restaurant award any Tofino kitchen has collected.

Reservations for up to six guests go through Exploretock at exploretock.com/wolfinthefog, and walk-ins are welcome, so a spontaneous dinner is possible if the booking grid is full.

The kitchen calls its own food ingredient-driven 'Tofitian' cuisine, built on fresh local catches and foraged ingredients from Tofino's oceans, shorelines and forests. That is the restaurant's own description on its site, and it is the reason the room keeps appearing in best-of conversations more than a decade after opening. The site prints no menu prices, so budget expectations come down to what a multi-course dinner in a resort town usually costs rather than a published figure.

The food-truck-to-dining-room arc runs deep here. SoBo, founded in 2003 as a truck behind a surf shop and now at 311 Neill Street, was one of the first food trucks named to enRoute's Top 10, and Wolf in the Fog's enRoute win sits in that same Tofino story. Before or after dinner, Tofino Brewing Company pours a short drive away at 691 Industrial Way.

Shelter Restaurant is at 634 Campbell Street, Tofino, inside Tofino Resort + Marina, phone 250-725-3353. Its own site lists daily hours of 7:30am to 11:00pm, spanning Cafe, Lunch, Dinner, Cocktails, Beer, Cider, Wine and Hot Drinks menus. The kitchen is built around local seafood, salads and burgers.

One correction to common assumptions: Shelter's published menu lists no pizza. The restaurant did host a one-off Pizza Delivery Night with the Tofino Volunteer Fire Department in 2025, a community fire-safety event where firefighters delivered pizzas and checked smoke alarms, but that was a charity event, not a menu item.

The location is a genuine planning advantage. Shelter sits inside the same property that operates the town's whale and bear watching boats, the Hot Springs Cove run, the winter wildlife tour, the floating sauna and the Big Tree Trail boat. Guests check in for all of those at the Marine Adventure Centre at the bottom of the hill.

That means you can return from a whale watching tour, which runs 2.5 hours out toward Flores, Vargas and Long Beach, and be at a table with seafood within minutes of stepping off the dock.

Because it serves breakfast, Shelter solves the early-morning problem that most Tofino dinner rooms create. The Pointe serves brunch from 7:30am and Tacofino opens at 11am, but if you have a dawn boat departure and want a real meal first, Shelter is the dependable answer on Campbell Street.

Tacofino started in June 2009 as a single orange food truck at 1184 Pacific Rim Hwy, founded by Jason Sussman, Kaeli Robinsong and Amy Bockner. The original truck is still there, at the same highway address. There is now a second Tofino location at 450 Campbell St in the village, a sit-down spot.

Both list hours of Sun-Sat 11am-7pm on tacofino.com, which makes the truck an early dinner stop rather than a late one. The brand has since grown to roughly a dozen locations across BC, but this is where it began.

The company calls its food 'West Coast Beach Food' on its own site, and runs online ordering through Toast for pickup, plus a loyalty program. Notably, tacofino.com prints no menu prices anywhere in its public pages, so we will not quote one here either. What we can say is that this is the casual, affordable end of this ranking, and the only entry where you can eat in a rain jacket straight off the beach.

Tacofino's story is the template. It proved a Tofino food truck could grow into a name known across the country, and SoBo, founded in 2003, had already shown a truck from this town could crack enRoute's national Top 10. Michelin first. The Michelin Guide's restaurant coverage in western Canada is scoped to Vancouver. It includes no Tofino restaurant, so no restaurant in this town holds a Michelin star or a Bib Gourmand as of this check.

What Michelin does publish for Tofino is hotel Keys on the 2026 list. The Wickaninnish Inn holds One Key and Clayoquot Wilderness Lodge holds Three Keys, the guide's highest ranking. The Lodge is a luxury camp in the Clayoquot Sound Biosphere Reserve reached by boat or seaplane, not a walk-in restaurant you book from town.

So when a travel blog calls a Tofino restaurant Michelin-recognized, it is borrowing a hotel's Key.

Canada's 100 Best Restaurants released its 2026 list, compiled by 160 judges, and it contains no Tofino restaurant in the top 100. The town's strongest award claims remain historical and specific. Wolf in the Fog was enRoute's Best New Restaurant in Canada in 2014, and SoBo was among the first food trucks to make enRoute's Top 10.

Those are real, dated, verifiable national recognitions.

Sustainability claims deserve the same scrutiny. We found no dated, official Ocean Wise page listing which Tofino restaurants currently hold partner status, so this page does not claim Ocean Wise certification for any named venue, even though third-party coverage has linked Tacofino to Ocean Wise-sourced seafood. Tofino Brewing Company, by comparison, is registered as an ocean-friendly business through Surfrider and won the Wild Ale category at the 2022 BC Beer Awards, with a third place in Dark Lager in 2023.

Award claims are easy to make and hard to source. Everything above traces to the awarding body or the venue's own site.

The practical takeaway for planning your own top restaurants in Tofino shortlist is this. Pick The Pointe for the occasion, Wolf in the Fog for the dining room with the national record, Shelter for the hours and the marina location, and Tacofino for the casual classic. Then treat any further award language you read elsewhere with the caution it has earned.
